A new reading room on the New Year for the boys of Free Birds Open Shelter. The renovation work happened during the Christmas vacation of 2015 and the all new reading room was inaugurated on 1st of January 2016.

Free Birds, a rehabilitation centre for street children didn’t have a proper room for kids to study. There was a room in which they use to study in the evening and also organize classes & other programmes. But the room was in a pretty bad shape and Arm of Joy decided to renovate the same with the money shared by seven people.
The renovation work was carried out during the December vacation and was completed in just 12 days. PVC ceiling was fixed, tiles were laid, electrical wiring was redone, new lights & fans were fixed, a sound system with amplifier and microphone was arranged and finally painted the walls, decorated it with wall paper and photographs. Photos & background of some of the greatest personalities who grew up from a humble background was also hanged on the walls of the reading room so that it can inspire the kids.
The all new reading room was inaugurated on 1st of January 2016. A small function was arranged by around 6pm. The youngest inmates of Free Birds, Surya & Shravan inaugurated the reading room. Anoop G, in the welcome address explained about the Renovation Project.
Sri. Abdul Salam, AWH project coordinator shared a few words. Smt. Shiny, member of Child welfare committee and an ex staff of Free Birds spoke about her experiences with the kids of Free Birds. Sri. Sulaiman, district coordinator of Child Line sharing a few words.
A token of gratitude from AWH for Arm of Joy was handed over to Anoop G by Sri. Abdul Salam. Sri. Aneesh, the coordinator of Free Birds shelter home delivering vote of thanks.
Smt. Deepthi had arranged a New year cake and it turned out to be the first cake cutting celebration inside the renovated room. Inauguration of the new sound system was also done with a performance of Kids.
