Imagine a situation where grown up girls don’t have an arrangement to change their clothes freely. At Free Birds Open Shelter Home for Girls, there was a big room and girls have to change their clothes from here without much privacy. It was not at all an appropriate system when two or more girls change their clothes simultaneously from this single room, as they get ready for school in the morning. When Aneesh, the co-ordinator of Free Birds told us about this issue a couple of months back, we had decided to find a permanent solution for this and we kicked off a new project of renovating this room with ample facilities for girls.
> At the outset, we paved tiles on the floor & walls of this room so as to make it clean & beautiful. We bought the tiles for the room which has a floor area of 400 square feet & wall area of 350 square feet. The entire cost of labour for paving & that for the tiles was met by Jinu from Abudhabi who had transferred an amount to us few weeks back with a wish to do something very useful for the deserved ones.
> Then we installed a big mirror for the girls. You all know how much girls value a mirror and it is indeed a sad state that they don’t have a proper arrangement when they dress up before going to school. We fixed a 6 ft x 5 ft mirror & a small shelf beneath it to keep their comb, cosmetics etc. This was done in memory of Dr.Vishwanathan as per his son’s wish.
> The work of false ceiling in PVC was then completed which made the room bright and beautiful. You all know that girls across ages love to dress up well and bright room will always make them happy. This New Year gift for the girls was made possible on the wonderful occasion of 40th wedding anniversary celebration of Mrs. Uma & Mr. Gopalakrishnan from Kozhikode.
> Close to half lakh was spent to arrange beautiful sliding doors for the big cupboards in which girls used to keep their clothes openly. They can now keep their clothes safely, thanks to the big contribution from Hariprasad & team, to share their happiness on the success of their business venture.
> Three Changing rooms like what we usually see in Garments Showrooms were set up so that the girls can change their clothes with much needed privacy. The cost of setting up 2 such rooms were met for the Joy of Diana Sonu from Melbourne and one more room with the amount shared by Devi Krishna from California.
> Cloth Hangers & other fittings for Changing rooms were arranged with the amount shared by Shubha from Bangalore on the occasion of her son’s birthday.
> The dressing room was having open spaces above the walls on 3 sides and all these areas were closed with fabrication materials so that the girls can remain confident as they get ready for school. The material & labour cost for the same came close to 45,000 and we could settle these with the contributions from Shameer & friends from Kozhikode, Amitha Anish from Doha & Ankur Sharma from Dubai on various occasions.
> An aluminum door & a fibre door were also installed to make the room safe & beautiful and these were done for the happiness of Hajara from Kozhikode.
> Electrical re-wiring was done & the cost of wires, pipes, switch boards etc was met with the amount shared by Rekha from Trivandrum to share her joy on securing a new job.
> Cost of Paints for the room & the labour charges for painting & electrical works were set off with the contributions from a couple of people who didn’t reveal their name while transferring money to the account of Arm of Joy.
> There is a group of friends who studied together in the Plus Two Commerce batch of the year 2009 at Govt. Medical College Campus Higher Secondary school. They used to do whatever possible from their end on every New Year day & this time they met the amount for the LED lights to be installed in the Dressing room that we are arranging for the girls of Free Birds. They all came to Free Birds one day and organized an entertainment session too for the girls. Cake cutting, Games and plenty of fun on the new year day for all the girls of Free Birds.
> All the other expenditure for decorative works, transportation and arrangements on the day of inauguration of Beauty Spot were met with the amount shared by Rinnet Sebastian from Vellore, Tamilnadu.
> Also we gifted combs, powder puffs and various holders to keep Bangles, Earrings etc for the Girls. The event was for the Joy of Mira mol residing in USA, who was celebrating her 4th birthday.
The total project cost was Rs.2.7 lakhs. The innauguration of Beauty Spot was done by the girls of Free Birds on 28th Januray 2018, which was also the 3rd anniversary of Arm of Joy.
