Renovating the temple of inmates at DD Home
14 January 2022

This special project was for the inmates of Leprosy Home (Disabled & Destitutes Home), who are cured from leprosy but abandoned by relatives. Something very unique about this home at Chevayur is that they have a mosque & a temple adjacent to each other. As the inmates are disabled due to leprosy, it is a struggle for them to move around. Hence years ago some wellwishers had constructed a mosque & a temple for them, so that they can offer prayers without going out of their compound. The temple was in a pathetic state and the inmates had been requesting us to renovate it. We decided to fulfill their wish by doing whatever possible to make it look good.

> The wood for the carpentry work has been bought as per the wish of Athira & Sachin from Kozhikode.

> The carpentry for the roofing and the doors of the temple and other works such as fixing of roofing tiles (odu) were done for the joy of Febin Ahamed from Feltam, England.

> The Sopanam & other decorative items, which are made of cement & clay. These were purchased from various vendors for the joy of Ambika & Haridasan from Kozhikode.

> 4 statues were fixed on 4 outside walls of the temple and 40 lamps (Chuttuvilakku) will be there around these statues. These were arranged for the joy of Padmini & Gangadharan from Kozhikode.

> It took more than 3 weeks of continuous work to make sure that the walling, plastering & other decorative work to fix the statues & all are completed on time.

> The entire labour charges for all the above mentioned works are met for the joy of Raghunandan from Texas, USA.

> The tiles to be paved on the floor of the temple were bought on the occasion of the 76th birthday of Kunjikrishnan from Vadakara, as per the wish of his son Hareesh Kumar.

> The fencing work was completed in such a way that the inmates can sit on this when there is any festival or celebration happening in their premises. This will also ensure that the compound of the temple remains neat & clean.

> The materials for setting up this fence, such as solid bricks, cement, sand etc were bought for the joy of Saraswathy & Sidharthan from Thrissur.

> An umbrella-like structure was fixed for the Kalvilakku at the temple. This was to ensure that the Kalvilakku does not get wet when it rains. The industrial work for this and also that for fixing posts of lamps and the main board for the temple was completed on time. The materials & labour cost for the same were met for the joy of Adithi mol from Kozhikode on the occasion of her birthday.

> An offering box was also fixed near the entrance to the temple compound. We expect many of the visitors who come to this place will feel like putting some money in this box which can be used for the maintenance of the temple. The box was purchased for the joy of Grace & Jomin on the occasion of their wedding anniversary in the last week of December.

> The electrical rewiring work of the temple and that for the courtyard in front of it, was completed for the joy of Krishna from Bangalore.

> The paint, putty etc for the walls, roofing tiles and the fence were purchased for the joy of Vidya & Sanal who were celebrating their 4th wedding anniversary.

> A Sarvamatha Bhakthiganamela was organised on the innauguration day by Singer Salish & his team, in which Hindu, Muslim & Christian devotional songs were sung. An entertaining Thayambaka was also there by Saji & team. These programmes for the recreation of the inmates are being arranged for the joy of Fincy Felix from Sharjah.

The project named Thathwamasi got completed on Makaravilakku day. The Ayyappa temple for the inmates of Leprosy Home, which we renovated spending more than 3 lakhs, was officially handed over on Makaravilakku evening by Sri. M.K. Raghavan (MP of Kozhikode), by lighting the lamp on the Kalvilakku in front of the temple.

Plenty of people from the neighbourhood of Leprosy Home came to the compound to see the temple and pray there. We hope more people will come to this compound where visitors are very rare and the temple will turn out to be something that brings more help for the inmates.
