There was a small hall in front of the office room of the Free Birds Open Shelter Home for Boys through which kids go to their bed rooms, reading room etc. Some of the small kids used to sit here for studying too. The hall was very congested & looked very dull and we were thinking to make it as much child friendly as possible. As usual without going for fund raising, we waited for people who use to come to us for celebrating birthdays, anniversaries etc. and with such contributions from 13 different persons on various occasions, we completed the project which amounted close to One lakh.
We started the work towards this goal, by paving vitrified tiles on the floor. This was done for the joy of Shreya mol from Singapore who celebrated her birthday in June. After paving tiles on the floor, the plan was to do tiling on the walls so that it always remain neat & colourful. We bought the wall tiles & the cement to do this work, for the joy of Ankur Sharma from Dubai. The wall tiling work hall was done for the Joy of Benoy John from Pathananthitta.
We then completed the electrical rewiring of the hall and the labour charges & the cost of electrical materials were met for the joy of Rinnet from Vellore. The wall fan for the hall was bought & fixed on the joyous occasion of the birthday of Dev Krishna from Bangalore. The cost of LED Lights in the hall & all other transportation & miscellaneous expenditure for the project was met with the amount from Varsha Agarwal from New Delhi.
The material cost & labour charges for the false ceiling were met as per the wish of Samitha teacher from Kozhikode. A Shelf made in fibre was also fixed on the wall for keeping any stuff related to children & also to hide the KSEB Meter board on the wall. The cost of the same was met for the joy of Dr. Shanthi Sunil.
Multi-purpose Benches for kids to sit & also to keep their stationery materials, were made in metal and the cost of 3 such benches were met on the birthday of Aarush in June. One more bench was made for the Joy of Arun Thomas from Kochi.
The paint, putty & other allied materials were bought on the occasion of the birthday of Anvitha from Doha. All the decorative works in the Hall of Joy including the labour for Painting, so as to make it as child friendly as possible, were done with the contribution from Fincy Felix from Sharjah towards some noble cause.
Artistic Painting was done on one wall of the hall with quotes of A.P.J Abdul Kalam so as to motivate kids and this was done with the amount shared by Mrudula Chalil from Bangalore on the occasion of her birthday.
The inauguration of ‘Hall of Joy’ will happened on 2nd September and none other than the kids of Free Birds did the official inauguration. On the festive occasion of Bakrid & Onam, we could gift this special space for the boys of Free Birds, a colourful & vibrant looking ‘Hall of Joy’.
