We had renovated the dining room of Free Birds Open Shelter Home for Boys into a beautiful & hygienic Cafeteria in March 2016. Now the strength of the home had gone up and the boys were finding it really tough to have food sitting together. So we thought of renovating the adjacent room in which seating arrangement can be done for 15-20 kids.
The kids of Free Birds follow a system of self service and so we constructed a Food Counter also in this room where food can be kept & served. There will also be a shelf to keep grocery & other stuff. With this additional room, we have also ensured that the sponsors who come here to serve food for kids can have food sitting along with kids.
The remodeling work started with a contribution from the actor Joy Mathew on his birthday in September 2016. And with more birthdays, anniversaries etc in the months ahead, we completed the false ceiling, flooring, electrical, painting & other decorative works. Itz was our dream that the kids there have food in dignity & with convenience. Now they have the following.
1. A dining room where around 40 kids can have food at a time.
2. A Pantry room adjacent to Kitchen
3. A Portico in front of Pantry room, where sponsors of Food can interact with Kids.
The entire project was finished in a span of 6 months with a budget in excess of 2 lakhs & the inauguration of this much awaited Food Corner was done by 3 little boys of the home. A very informal inauguration session was followed with a dinner for all.
