Painting exhibition by a sex trafficking victim

An exhibition of some stunning paintings by a sex trafficking victim from Bangladesh who was trapped here in Kerala, from 14th – 21st November 2015, at Art Gallery of Lalithakala Academy.

Canvas & paints were bought towards the end of October and handed over to the lady. She completed all the 18 paintings in 5-6 days. The paintings by the lady who has not got any professional training or any kind of exposure was literally stunning.

The eminent artist Sri. Paul Kallanod inaugurated the painting exhibition on 14th November 2015 at Art Gallery of Lalithakala Academy. The celebrated author & social activist, Sri. M.N. Karassery and Smt. K. Ajitha, the president of Anweshi were also present on the occasion. The lady did two more painting as per request from people during the exhibition.

More than a thousand people visited the exhibition hall in 8 days and all the 20 paintings were sold out. People also were so keen to write a few lines of motivation & support for the Bangla lady. We compiled all those notes & got it translated to Hindi. The spiral bound notes (both original & translated notes) were gifted to the lady so that she can always feel the love & support of this land.

Dr. M.K. Muneer, Minister for Social Justice also visited the exhibition venue one day. The minister was so impressed with the paintings and booked one for himself.

A total of Rs. 85,000, equivalent to One Lakh Taka (Bangladesh Currency) was handed over to the lady on 24th November. Rs.60,000 from the sale of 20 paintings and Rs.25,000/- from the sale of books.
