A group of friends who studied together for Mechanical Engineering about two decades ago came forward to support flood affected families. They were of the 2003 batch of TKM Engineering College in Kollam district and presently they are scattered across the world in various professions. When they contacted us to identify a project for flood affected families, we got in touch with Sri. NSK Umesh, the sub collector of Wayanad, which was the district badly hit by floods of 2018 & 2019.
As per the direction of the sub collector, we visited a tribal colony which is about 5 kms away from Mananthawady. This Nechooli tribal colony located on the banks of Kabani river was fully sunk in the recent floods. There were 21 houses in the colony & we decided to provide some basic things as a relief for them.
We manufactured 21 metal cots of size 6'x4' with cupboards beneath the cots for all the 21 houses in this flood affected tribal colony at Nechooli. We also arranged beds, blankets, pillows, pillow covers, towels & some kitchen utensils for all these houses. The entire stuff was of worth Rs.2.5 lakhs.
We manufactured the cots & cupboards from Kozhikode and all the other stuff were also purchased from Kozhikode. We loaded everything in a mini lorry and took it to Wyanad 28th of November (Thursday). Smt. Adeela Abdulla received us at the Collectorate in Kalpetta and after the symbolic handing over we moved ahead to the tribal colony near Mananthawady. All the cots & cupboards were assembled from the colony. The entire stuff was distributed to the families of all the 21 houses.
