A safe & stylish ENTRANCE was constructed for the boys of Free Birds Open Shelter Home. The earlier entrance was not at all convenient and also very much insecure for the small ones here. We decided to find a solution for this and demolished the old entrance using a JCB and then set up a safe & strong entrance for the kids.
We have always tried to make sure that Free Birds Open Shelter Home is a sponsor friendly institution. When more sponsors keep visiting such an institution, the kids there will definitely get more help from them. So we are ensuring that the vehicles can enter their compound, and thereby various sponsors can easily come to this compound with their vehicles to distribute food & other stuff for the kids.
We felt this project will change the face of this shelter home and also it will make the life easy & more dignified for the little ones there. This single project has ensured 3 things.
- Safety for kids with a strong gate at the entrance.
- Convenience for Sponsors & visitors, as they can now bring vehicles inside the compound.
- Dignity for kids & the institution as a whole, since the entrance has become attractive & stylish.
> The cost for demolishing the old entrance and the labour charges for the makeover are being met with the amount shared on the occasion of the birthday of Tulsi from Dubai.
> The cement & TMT bars for the concrete work of gate pillar & entrance were purchased for the joy of Anoop from Muscat.
> The cost of sand & gravel for the work was met with the amount shared by Amitha from Doha.
> Purchase cost of the Solid bricks for the pillars & walls, and various transportation & miscellaneous expenditure during the entire project period were met with the amount shared by Varsha from New Delhi.
> The plastering work of the entrance and the short wall on one side of the passage for vehicles, was done for the joy of a supporter of Arm of Joy, who transferred money to our bank account without mentioning the name.
> The kids of Start Right School at Govindapuram use to organize a fair every year as part of their value education and the fund raised by the kids were utilized through Arm of Joy to do noble things in old age homes & orphanages. They have raised more than half lakh rupees this time and almost half of it was utilized to manufacture a strong & safe gate for the security of boys at Free Birds. A specially designed gate with images of birds engraved on it, was manufactured from an industrial workshop at Mankavu & has been fixed at the entrance.
> The entire electrical work including gate lights, electrical materials & labour was done for the joy of Shadim from Doha.
> All the painting & other decorative works of the entrance were done with the amount shared for the joy of Pranav mon from Dubai.
> 50 saplings of ‘Nandhyarvattam’ were also planted to add some greenery to the entrance. The cost of the saplings and Gardner’s charges were met with the amount shared by Lakshmi and her dear & near ones, in memory of her father.
The safe & stylish Gate of Freedom at Free Birds Open Shelter Home was inaugurated on 19th January 2020 by Sri. A.V. George IPS, the city police commissioner of Kozhikode. A few kids from Start Right school who contributed towards the gate at the entrance were also present on the occasion, along with their principal Smt. Meera Ramdas & other teachers.
