An event for the girls of After Care Home & Girls Home

We celebrated Women’s day with the girls of After Care Home, Vellimadukunnu, which is under the Social Justice Dept, Govt of Kerala. A morning session by Smt. Sunitha Vijayakrishnan, for motivating the girls to be BOLD & aim for a job, than getting married at a very early age. An afternoon session by Smt. Deepa Pavithran, to impart lots of tips to remain BEAUIFUL, physically & mentally. And finally a joyful evening at Kozhikode beach. A memorable day in the life of these girls, gifted by two wonderful couples, Ranjitha & Sreejith, Deepa & Deepak.

Smt. Sunitha Vijayakrishnan, the soft spoken Principal of JDT Islam College of Nursing, interacted with the girls in her incredibly informal style. She talked about women like Irom Sharmila & Mary Kom, who are synonyms of Boldness. A small token of gratitude was presented to Smt. Sunitha on behalf of Arm of Joy.

Afternoon session was by Smt. Deepa Pavithran, Managing Director of Zain Lady Beauty Studio. The beautician who also finds time to add so much value to the society as the Secretary of C4CCCI (Caring for Childhood Cancer & Chronic Illness), As Kahlil Gibran said, “Beauty is not in the face; beauty is a light in the heart.”. She not only gave lots & lots of useful tips on beauty maintenance, but also offered all her support in guiding those interested to take up a career as beautician. A small token of gratitude was presented to Smt. Deepa also on behalf of Arm of Joy.

We had arranged two buses for providing transport for the girls to Kozhikode beach. The Management of JDT Islam had offered their support by providing buses, at nominal charges.

The children had loads of fun at beach. We served icecream for them and had arranged a big cake also for them. They were also gifted with pink balloons to symbolize the need for freedom for women to attain heights.

We could make a humble attempt to tell these girls that 'Marriage is not the ultimate aim in life'. Whenever we went to their place earlier and chatted with them, we could understand that 'Standing in the limelight on the day of Wedding reception' is the biggest dream of many of these girls. We desperately want to bring in a change in their outlook and sow seeds for mightier & meaningful dreams in their life.
