An event for the boys of Free Birds Open Shelter Home.

A space in Free Birds Open Shelter Home for Boys which remain unused for a long time was converted into a beautiful Portico. Aneesh, the co-ordinator of Free Birds had requested us last week, whether Arm of Joy can do something to revamp this space and make it a favourite area for the kids. The very next day we made a plan to make it an area where kids can play carrom, chess etc & also read newspapers.

The hollow bricks were removed & the work began. News tiles were paved, False Ceiling was fixed, Electrical wires were concealed, new switch boards were fixed and Painting & decoration works were done for making it child friendly. The entire work was done in just one week’s time. The event was to celebrate the birthday of twins, Nihan & Nazeen from Qatar. The furniture & other stuff for the portico were bought with the amount shared by Sanjana from Singapore. The painting & other miscellaneous expenditure were met with the support of Surya from Manipal.

As we had made the cafeteria side very attractive, the area on the right side was looking dull and that was the reason for taking up this challenge. This work began on 22nd July 2016 & was completed in just 7 days.

The inauguration function happened on 29th of July by around 5pm. Actor & Director Joy Mathew inaugurated the Club Portico by playing caroms with the kids. The birthday boys were also present during the innauguraton event. The kids also performed mimicry & sang songs during the event.
